The Department conducts research on European regional and country-specific issues. It analyzes developments in the European Union and European countries and regions, as well as NATO-related issues. It examines political, diplomatic, economic, security, and social-cultural developments in these regions and countries, as well as China’s relations with the countries concerned. The Department is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the China-Central and Eastern European Countries Global Partnership Center.
