The Department conducts research on European and Central Asia regional and country-specific issues. It analyzes developments in Russia, Central Asia, and the countries of the South Caucasus, along with issues related to the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. It examines political, diplomatic, economic, security, and social-cultural developments in these regions and countries, as well as China’s relations with the countries concerned. The Department is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the China Center for Shanghai Cooperation Organization Studies.
